We arrived at the theatre on Tuesday 11th June with an open dress to be held on Thursday 13th, thus meaning that all of the tech for acts one and two had to be completed in two days. In order to accomplish this great feat, we worked from 10am-10pm with two one hour breaks to eat throughout the day.
The theatre presented new challenges, the space was completely different to our rehearsal space, and although we had tried to account for this by marking out the dimensions of the stage on the studio floor, we had extra areas to contend with along with a deeper space. We also had a balcony and staircase that we had to get used to using. Entering into the theatre was also the first time we had seen the set and some of the larger props such as the Cortina car. We began to work our way through the show, lighting and spacing each scene and song.

Once in the theatre we also had to contend with quick changes for the first time. Due to our company being so small in number, only fourteen in the cast, everyone had to double role, and some people had to multi-role. This meant there were many quick changes throughout the production. During studio runs, we were able to time how long we had for each quick change and practise changing shoes and costume items such as jackets, but we were never able to practice full costume changes or walking the great distance between the entrances at stage right and stage left in the Pleasance Theatre. To complicate matters further, the theatre had no side stage areas, therefore setting costumes in an easily accessible, yet safe, place away from the audience became a new challenge. We identified a safe place to get changed and worked with the costume team to make changes easier and smoother, and of course we all made sure to help each other too!
After two days, we had successfully completed tech for the whole show and were ready to do a dress run on the Thursday morning.
