Heading into the penultimate week of rehearsals everything was feeling good, until we began recapping harmonies and choreography. The team were struggling (myself included) with coordinating the sometimes very complicated harmonies and the intricate choreography. The pressure was on to get this right as we had not recorded a click track, a recording of the cast singing the harmonies that can be played when sound needs to be bolstered during large ensemble numbers, as we wanted everything in the show to be live.
With this in mind, it was my responsibility to hold vocal rehearsals. During the final week of rehearsals before getting into the theatre, I organised rehearsals for the show vocals 9-10 for three days, where we would work through material that was highlighted in the notes the day before. It also gave everyone the opportunity to ask questions and ensure they were correct without wasting rehearsal time. During these hour sessions, we would start with a warm up and then move into two or three key numbers that needed notes implementing or just generally needed polishing; we also began to add choreography in at the end of the rehearsal to allow everyone to coordinate the vocals with movement, this allowed us to feel more prepared when rehearsals with the creative team began, it also meant that we did not need to carry out a vocal warmup which again saved time and allowed us to have more opportunities to work on material with the creative team in the room.

It was imperative that we knew what was expected of us and knew our material inside out as once we got to tech week at the theatre, the creative team had to divert their attention away from us and towards elements that brought the production together, such as lighting, set and sound. Due to the extra rehearsals that were held during the week, both vocal and dance, and due to the rest if the cast being so willing to volunteer their time outside of rehearsals with the creative team, we were able to enter into the theatre well prepared and in a great place to start tech.
A photo taken during one of our extra rehearsals - our rehearsal space was not available so we used a drama room to rehearse singing harmonies and choreography.
Our last photo as a team outside of London Studio Centre.
